Van parked on the pavement - presumably delivering cash?

Friday afternoon - this was the sight - a large van parked on the narrow pavement outside Tesco.
Presumably they were delivering cash for the much need cash machine ( we only have four others within a 100 yards don't we?)

Delivery times and the 'good neighbour' promise

Before Tesco opened, we were promised that they wouldn't deliver before 7am or after 8pm.

This week, neighbours have seen delivery vans, in the no loading area at 6.30 and 6.45 on Wednesday and Thursday and then on Friday we were woken up at 6.40, when one of the employees slammed their car door. On venturing to see what was happening we found this van unloading.
It would appear that the good neighbour pledge only applies when it suits Tesco.

Tesco - Temporary Alcohol Licence

There is no end to the way and means being used here to circumvent the law. The licencing committee hasn't met yet to consider the licencing application, and therefore Tesco don't have an alcohol licence for the foreseeable future. However, they have put in a special event request to have a licence for 10 days. The 'special event' being the opening of a new store. I am speechless.

UPDATE - local councillors managed to convince Tesco that it wasnt really an event, and they withdraw the request for an events licence. The licencing committee meets in three weeks. We should know then whether they can sell alcohol or not.

Update on removal of the tree from corner of Auckland and Plattsville

I missed the opportunity to photograph the ironic sign outside Tesco, but to quote ' Caring for the environment while developing your store'!!!  Not sure how this works in the light of the removal of the tree.

A number of neighbours complained to me about the removal of the tree - they were as upset as me to see it go.

However, I advised one of the neighbours to write to our contact at Tesco and she has asked the contractors to explore planting some bushes in the vacant space.

Not what we had before, but may return some greenery to the corner, and cover up any litter dropped there.

'NO' Loading bay on Allerton Road 22nd 4pm

Surprise, Surprise. The new Tesco store is nearing readiness for stocking and when I came back home today (22nd October) at about 4pm, there in the 'no loading at any time' area was a white van. The workmen were in and out of Tesco.
I think this is only the start of what we can expect.

if you see anyone breaking the law and parking there to unload or load, please take a photo, and post it here to compile our list of evidence.

Loading and unloading on Allerton Road

Bearing in mind that loading is not allowed - at any time  - directly outside of the new Tesco store, and that the loading area is outside the bank on the corner, that loading times are restricted, and that Tesco have promised not to deliver before 7am and after 8pm, I am struggling to see, how they will stock their store without breaking traffic laws, and forcing people into the road to stop oncoming buses.

I, for one, will be watching and photographing at every opportunity. I hope you will join me.

Removal of tree in Auckland and Plattsville Road L18

8 am Monday 18/10/2010

10.15 am  Going........

11.30 am Gone

Seems a shame to cut down the tree. Yes it got overgrown, but it wouldn't have cost too much to keep it trimmed back.

We have been told that Tesco contend that the tree 'may' have undermined the building foundations. However, Tesco are not using that side of the building as they have partitioned the building and are only using the left hand side ( as you face it from Allerton Road). Tesco also have concerns about security and people accessing the roof. I think even Corky the Cat would have struggled to get onto the main roof from that tree!

Tesco Express Store for Allerton Road Liverpool 18

The opening of a new Tesco convenience store close to your home may be a welcome addition to the local neighbourhood for some people. For us, in Auckland and Plattsville Roads, its a major cause of concern.
We are worried about increased traffic flow, noise both early in the morning and late at night, anti social behaviour and litter. These are only the problems we anticipate - there may be others that emerge.
For the residents of this area, we want no more or less than we have now - busy streets during the day with workers and shoppers from the businesses on Allerton road, and quiet streets after 6. Few cars, the ability to park outside your own front door, and a reasonably peaceful existence.
We don't hold out much hope for getting that, and Tesco are not giving us any real hope that they will work with us, despite their 'good neighbour' promises.
This blog is to allow the people who live around here to make their feelings known, and keep a record of what is happening.
We hope for the best....but expect the worst.
